“Re-use and Recycling”--- This unit will educate the students on what is recyclable, what is not, and how to re-use items. It encourages students to re-use and recycle, not only instilling this practice in the classroom but also taking the message home! The students will make an item from materials used frequently in the home.
“What is a Landfill?"--- This unit will explain to students why a landfill is necessary but also how much of the materials going to the landfill could/should be recycled instead. This is also “hands-on” and each student will create & eat an “Edible Landfill” of their own.
“Composting”--- This unit will explain how earthworms eat garbage in the landfill (our trash) and each student will make a “Chia Worm”.
Each of these educational units will take 30-45 minutes of classroom time and will be a valuable lesson.
Contact Bettie Jacobs – Educator, at bjacobssolidwaste@hotmail.com to schedule one or all of the units. These units can be modified to suit any age!
